Spec me an upgrade on a 7970

Thinking of upgrading from my 7970 which is currently out for RMA. Running a 2600k/Gene IV/8GB RAM/600w 80+ Gold PSU setup.

I'm thinking I have 2 main options:

(1) Picking up a second 7970 and pairing it with my existing one when I get it back off RMA.

(2) Going the single card route, which is what I usually do, and which would probably be best considering I'm using an mATX board and a 2nd GPU would block the PCIe x1 slot my sound card currently occupies. I'm not at all opposed to picking up a second-hand card off the MM if that's going to get me more bang for buck, but if there are any good deals on new cards, that's fine too.

Thanks.

What resolution you use? Might be an idea to get another 7970 to play with during the wait for the new AMD/NVIDIA cards.

Another 7970? that would keep you until the new 3xx series from AMD!

If you really want a single card, go for a 290 or if you can afford it a 295x2!

295x2 is overkill for 1080p ;) if you can wait until the 300 series cards that would be great because even the 380X is rumoured to have beastly specs

I had another 280x = 7970 and it was **** to set up.

The 970 I got just blew it away, now the 980 is a different ball game.

The 980 would be ideal but would cost too much for me right now. I'm looking for a 'cheap and cheerful' upgrade until I can upgrade my whole system.

What's your budget for cheap and cheerful?
