Hello all,

I have recently purchased an Ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor for productivity & want to game on Ultra on Total War warhammer II at 60fps - my options are to either upgrade the GPU I currently have or to build a new system if my CPU bottlenecks a GPU upgrade.

Current System:
OS: Windows 10 64 bit
CPU: AMD FX-8320E Eight-Core Processor @ 4.02 Ghz
GPU: Pallit Nvidea Geeforce GTX960 4GB
RAM: 16GB
PSU: 600W Bronze
SSD: 128GB
HDD: 2GB

-Does my CPU bottleneck an upgrade to a 1060 / 1070 / 1080?
-Do i need a bigger Power supply for a 1060 / 1070 / 1080?
- Will a GPU upgrade alone give me the ability to play 60fps at 3440x1440?

Thanks!

You wont be playing on ultra settings with just an upgraded GPU. You want at least a 1070, trust me I play TW2 myself. I think your processor is definately worth an upgrade, you should consider this: -

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £729.48
(includes shipping: £10.50)

How fast is your RAM?

- Will a GPU upgrade alone give me the ability to play 60fps at 3440x1440? Depends on the settings. Do you already have a 4k monitor or do you plan to buy one?

I'm sure a decent 600w PSU will do the job for a Single GPU... Going for a new Ryzen CPU would be a good step but make sure your RAM is 3000mhz or higher.

Tried to find video comparing your current CPU to 1600/1700 but only found 1500x
Believe it is also at 1080p gameplay so at your 1440p ultra wide all bottle neck should be gone and difference between the two cores not as much

If your monitor is freesync pick up at Vega 56 and flash it to 64 bios but currently OCUK selling Vega 64 for £540 so no brained to pick that up, undervolted and overclock it.

If it's G-sync or has no sync then pick up a GTX 1080 Ti.

Play some games and check your CPU usage , might be surprised in your current core to last you maybe another year till "z390" chip set is out and Intel taking aim and Ryzen killer price for cores and release their mainstream 8 core CPUs , or zen+ will be out :)
