Looking to spend up to £600 max on an upgrade. I realise this is still a pretty high spec but wondered what would be the best route.

Spec:
Intel Dual Core E6600
4GB Ram
8800GTX
Abit fatal1ty fp-in9 Motherboard

Cheers,

What does your system not do that you want it to? And what are the main uses for your PC? You could go for quad core but it isn't likely to offer any significant benefit in most games.

Well I run at fairly high res (1680x1050) and finding some slow down at COD4, TF2 and Crysis.

On CSS stress test I get about 122FPS on max settings at above res.

Am thinking a Quad Core upgrade might be an option as I do a lot of photo/video editing. But games performace increase would be nice.

If you really want to upgrade then something like the below parts might be suitable. I'm aware that the CPU is OEM so you would need to re-use your existing cooler and I've not idea what your current PSU is so it might already be capable.

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK) £74.99

Don't really know about SLi in Vista as I usually wouldn't recommend it for most but you are in a situation where you might benefit from it since the 9800GX2s are so expensive in comparison.

If you wanted a cheaper half-way house style upgrade you could consider just buying the quad core and good cooling if you don't already have it and then seeing how far you can overclock. I haven't checked but I'm assuming the Abit motherboard doesn't have any issues with quad core.

Well from reading the Abit forums it doesn't have the best Quad OCin as its a 650i Motherboard. But I'd be happy with stock if I get the Q9550.
