Right. Situation is is that I've had a PC that's been broken for months and finally want to get round to doing something about it. However I am on a tight budget and really want bang for buck to get something resembling a decent PC out of this again.
Currently running
A Gigagyte GA-965P-DS3 running an overclocked E6300 at about 2.6Ghz. 3 of the 4 SATA ports on the motherboard have had it so I need to ditch the motherboard. CPU still okay I'm assuming.
Artic Freezer 7 - Still fine
6GB DDR2 2x2GB OCZ 6400 Gold cheapy stuff and 2x1GB Geil 6400. Still seems to work fine.
HIS ATI Radeon X1950Pro - was overheating like mad and now the fan has gone so that's out the window
Case, PSU and hard drives will also be fine.
So really, I want to spend in the region of £150ish to get a serviceable machine again. I'm not a massive performance whore, as long as it can play most stuff accceptably at 1440x900 without overheating like my previous 3 graphics cards suffered from. Some overclockign headroom would be ncie too. I was looking at the new components route but
A) I don't really know what I'm looking for. I've really lost touch with modern PC components.
B) Obviously far lass bang for buck.
However, if decent new components can be done for this budget then that's fine. Otherwise I can go on the MM and get stuff off there. I'm thinking that both the motherboard and CPU have past their prime, so probably more recent components can replace those. I'd rather not splash out on more memory, but I don't know how much modern stuff still supports DDR2.
And just to give you an idea of the performance I'm after, I'm currently using my brothers PC which has an 8800GT, 8GB DDR2 and a stock E8500. This really is about what I'm after performance wise, maybe a little more.
