Spec me an upgrade

While I'm temporarily in the world of the working again, I'd like to upgrade the core bits of my games machine.

There's nothing really functionally wrong with it (apart from it gets a bit noisy when I'm gaming), but it's only Sata II and USB 2. The latter isn't really that important to me, but my SSD is getting bored going slowly (or that's my excuse of the minute anyway).

Current machine is:

Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3
AMD Phenom II X4 965
Sapphire HD 6790
8GB of RAM

I'm looking to spend around £400 if the upgrade is worth it. I can go a bit higher, but certainly no more than £500.

As I mentioned, the machine starts to get a tad noisy when gaming (it is only running a stock fan though), so along with the upgrade, one of the most important features is ..... quiet.

Over to you :)

Can I just say, the heatsink on this thing is MAHOOOOSIVE!!!! Some of my old components have set up residence inside (and invited their friends)!

On the plus side (and after some out loud naughty words while putting the DIY kit together) it's pretty much whisper quiet. :)

Excellent :D

Any pics of your new setup :)

Extremely tardy response from me. Part due to laziness and part due to my lack of enthusiasm for photography ;)

As you can see, my cable tidying technique needs some work (even after all these years building my own machines ), but other than that, all splendid and lovely!
