With Fallout 4 on the horizon (among other games), I think it's time I finally retire this old Q6600 relic. I'm hoping to use some of my old stuff, so...
Budget:
~£600
Stuff I definitely need:
-Mobo
-RAM
-CPU
-Graphics card
Stuff I'm not sure if I need to upgrade:
-Hyper 212+ CPU cooler
-Corsair GS600w PSU
Stuff I will reuse:
-Case (Corsair 500r)
-1x SSD and 4x HDDs
-4x 120mm fans & 1x140mm fan
-1 optical drive
-1 Fan controller
It would be nice to switch to a modular PSU, but I don't know if it's worth spending the extra money if this one has enough juice to power the new build. I'm always worried that with so many hard drives and fans, that they take up a lot of juice, and the 600w isn't really enough to run a mid-to-high end graphics card.
Purpose
Gaming and photo editing (RAW files etc) with some very occasional video editing. Because of this, I'm looking for 2x8GB to allow me to expand to 32GB RAM if need be. I don't need to run things at ultra settings at 4k, but if I can comfortably run things like Fallout 4, Killing Floor 2, the upcoming Deus Ex at 1080p on high/medium-high, then I'll be happy. I've never really been heavy into overclocking, so assume I'll run things at stock.
