I'm after some new books for my 4 year old - she loves Julia Donaldson books and we've read the Gruffalo, Stick Man, Tiger That Came to Tea, Smartest Giant etc. She's also just got into a childrens encyclopedia.

I'd like to get her some new books so i'm after other dads/mums recommendations on what they've enjoyed with their kids :)

The Mr Men books are always popular.
I also remember reading my kids some books that had a simple sentence at the top of the page for them to read or a more detailed one at the bottom for you to read to them. I'll have a look when I get home to see if we still have them and post the names. These were very good for teaching them to read.

My kids loved this one.

Diary of a Wombat by Jackie French.

Avalable in all good bookstores.

Thomas The Tank Engine might be suitable for you.

Some of them might be a bit advanced but Roald Dahl books are great for children, if not for now then in another year or twos time.

When my daughter was 4 we started the complete Winnie the Pooh collection. A relative (or friend - can't remember) gave them to us all in one massive hard cover book and we read one or two chapters per night, and it was brilliant. It was cool rehashing all that came before the current chapter each night before we began reading. I highly recommend it!
