No it isn't, what I was trying to say was get the 256mb DX9 now, when DX10 becomes the norm then get a 512mb DX10 card.

Hmm, if thats the case, would a slightly more expensive investment in say, a 256mb 7950GT be a worthwhile performance increase over the 7900gs to warrent the price hike? how well does it clock? Or would it simply be overkill for the games I play (World of Warcraft mainly) and I would be better off saving the money by getting the 7900GS and putting that extra towards a newer DX10 card when they arrive?

Yeah the 7950GT is overkill for WOW, which is also heavily dependent on a decent CPU and large RAM, which you will have.

The 7900GS is the best bang for the buck solution for now until the next bang for the buck DX10 card shows up that is worth investing in.

OK well, thats helped save some money then heh...

I was starting to look at the 256mb version OCuK have on offer at the moment (Gainward, clocked at 500/1400) or an XFX (Clocked at 450/1320) from somewhere else, but my main concern with these is that both firms are known for selling higher clocked versions of their products, which they both indeed do.

My concern is that these lower clocked models may be overclocking "rejects", that is to say, unstable at Gainwards own overclocked speeds, so were sold as a stock Item.

That is a common practice, not just in graphic cards but in CPUs as well. But that doesn't mean to say that all lower end or stock products are rejects, which is why you see high overclocks on so many of them.

This is true, but I was more refering to the fact that companies who sell higher clocked versions can prettymuch guarentee that if you buy a lower clocked one, it wont clock well.

At least with the Gainward they only do 1 type of 7900GS, so at least that should clock as well as most of the other makes. (I just prefer the cooler to the OCuK one too, else I would probly buy that, cus its cheaper lol)
