Hi,

I need to replace just the box so need:-

a) mobo
b) onboard gpu
c) ram preferably 1g
d) gpu
e) cd drive
f) hdd
g) PSU
h) case

g + h would most prob come together?

Its needs to be cheap as possible..

Is there point in getting 1g ram or you think its ok for now then stick another 1g in later?

Anyway should be as cheap as poss

just for surfing and basic ms office work

Cheers!!

Oh must be reliable components..

thanks

You could save more money by going for an asus barebones but I think the premiem for a known good quality power supply & stylish case is worth it.
Likewise, there' about £5 to be saved on the Hard disc for an 80gb unit but that seems poor value for half the storage. I chose the samsung spinpoint because I've used them for several builds and found them quiet & reliable.

Hopefully this will provide a starting point anyway.

As close as I can get it. Note that I've halved the memory to 1gb (still plenty for a word processing /web browsing machine). I've added a DVD rather than DVD RW drive to save £6, so burning discs is not an option on this machine but may not be needed anyway or they may store on usb stick. One thing I haven't changed is 160gb hard disc ; 80gb hard disc will save you exactly £3. There's no earthly way it's worth halving the storage capacity for a 10 % reduction on the hard drive.
