Right, well I've decided on buying my stepbrother an assortment of cider, as normally he just drinks strongbow and I want to educate him a bit :p
Can anyone recommend me any decent exotic ciders that I can either order online or buy somewhere here in Southampton?
Thanks

Just go to Tesco, and buy one of each of the 'expensive' ones. Henney's is very good (IIRC they do two different ones), Westons do good cider too. The Organic Westons is good, and so is the reserve. There are a couple of decent Tesco Finest ones there as well.

If you buy Mag/Bull/Gaymers I'll hunt you down and, well, I don't know. :p

Thatchers Old Rascal.

It's the tastiest stuff I have ever had the pleasure of putting down my throat.

usually find it in ASDA.

Aspalls is rather nice, they've got a bit of a variety to flavours as well, would make a good gift actually :)

Or if all else fails, just get him a crate of his 'bow ;) :D

See if you have a local cider farm and grab a proper scrumpy.

I've just had a look, and although there aren't any near here, there's a farm which has a stockist near where I live back in Haslemere, so I may give them a shot this weekend :D
Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I may still hit up Asda tomorrow to find something for myself ;)

I quite like Thatcher's Katy Apple cider, but the vast majority of the ciders are at least nice, some very good. Avoid Perry (IMO it's awful and far too sweet) and the "summer fruits" style ciders and you're good to go :)

Aspalls is rather nice

It is one of my favourites.

As Stulid says, Thatchers is of a good standard. Same for Westons.

Try and find some Addlestones as well. My favourite cloudy cider.

One of the good things that has happened in the last few years is the revival on English cider. Supermarkets are packed with really good stuff you would never see a few years back.

As for that French ****. They can **** off. :D

English is the best in the world without any doubt. :)

Henney's and Savanna Dry would be my two preferred choices from a supermarket. Very nice.
I could give you some of my apfelwein, it'll put hairs on your chest.
If you can get Addlestones, get that. It's magnificent, rocket fuel but very good. I believe a pub near me does small cardboard kegs of it so might be worth seeing if you can get something similar?

The really cheap cider from Tesco called 'Orchard Mill' is actually very very good for what it is. Not suggesting that as a present, but it's less chemically than Strongbow and has a much more 'cidery' taste.

I can also vouch for Sainsburys own label 'Strong Dry Cider'.

£3.12 down here for 3 litres and it is miles better than Strongbow. Tatses terrible in cans though. Bargain stuff!

I'd go with the Cider Maker's Choice pack out of those. Stowford Press is pretty limp, but the others are good. Old Rosie in particular is very potent stuff indeed, and is the best draught cider readily available where I live (proper scrumpy with bits of wasp in is better though :p).

I'm fortunate enough to live near Lewes, which has Middle Farm on it's outskirts. Middle Farm probably has in excess of 100 different ciders and scrumpys on cask to take away. Not that that helps the OP.

Have you actually tried it?! I recommend you do, at least so you can rule it out if you don't like it;) Have a bottle with a meal, serve chilled in small glasses, not pints. It's seriously the best cider I've had and yes I enjoy scrumpy and all the rest.
