Spec me DDR3 System

out of the blue someone spec me a DDR3 system.. cheap as possible, thanks.

Is there any particular reason you want DDR3? It really brings a very little advantage to the table.

Yes, compared to DDR2, especially at games, hardly any improvement.

Well what would you say from a QUAD to an I7? thats why i was planning a DDR3 upgrade.

or should i just wait for the prices to drop?

Well, what's your current spec? and what are you using ur PC for mainly? If it's for gaming, I'd save up as you won't notice much difference, but if its 3D work etc then go for i7, i doubt the price will drop too much, £500 will get u a nice i7 upgrade.

i use my computer for video editing and gaming.

specs atm are:

q6600 @ 3.2
ASUS P5KC
4GB RAM @ 800 MHz (GEIL2x2)
PSU / 600w
HIS 4850
--------------

soon im getting a 24inch monitor and as it stands a new graphics card maybe 4890, the reason i asked about DDR3 and I7 is because theres a chance i could sell this computer

i7 is a step up from a 3.2ghz quad core. I'd consider it something of a step sideways if you had a 4ghz quad core though.

So no amd then?
D0 920 i7, asus p6t or gene, 3 or 6 gb of your choice of ocz or corsair. Do you need the entire box, or just the main parts?

if by entire box you mean case PSU ect then no.. just CPU, RAM and MOTHERBOARD

then again still worth considering getting high end quad and sticking with ddr2.. its hard to get my head around

and yeah AMD has also been an option but i dont know much about it myself.

I wouldn't bother changing to AMD (even though I am an AMD fan

) since you've already got a intel mobo, I guess you can get something like q9550, but like you said, if you can sell it, I'd go for a new shiny i7 set up

i'd think i stick with a quad atm and wait a year for the i7, could also go all out on a shiny case

Can sell a second hand 6600 for about a ton, and buy either an e8600 and clock it very high, or a q95*0 and clock that.

If you get a decent price for the current rig then I'd sell it and build a new one, mainly because building computers is fun.

i agree building is fun especially from new components, well as it stands i will sell off this computer and get a better quad and motherboard and all the other essentials
