Need to update/replace my/old mans drill bits and various.

I'm looking at the 2x Makita sets that are available, the P-4406 and 216 Piece Drill Bit set available from the Rainforest....

Are they any good? I want something that's gonna last :)

they are rubbish mate, How much budget do you have ?

i'm a joiner by trade so know my stuff :)

http://www.screwfix.com/p/wera-bitorsion-assorted-diamond-set-7pc/36373 i've had mine 9 years and must have easily put about 5000 screws through 1 bit alone and still bites with perfection every time)

http://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-hss-titanium-drill-bit-set-25pcs/78515 (keep them clean and oiled/cooled they will last you many years of abuse)

What else do you need. most of the combination set are poorly made pieces of junk which use cheap metals, try to go for titanium drill bits and wera bits i've not found a single screwdriver or bit that can compete in any way with anything from the wera range

Hehe, I was going to post those exact 2 sets, got them both a couple of months ago and they are perfect. I would also add a set of masonry bits, I got the below ones then if you really need other specialist bits (flat/fluted wood, ceramic, hole saws etc) then buy as needed, I wouldnt bother just having them around though. The other thing I regard as essential is a good countersink bit, very useful to have around.

Hmm, Erbauer isn't a very good make at all. Tried a few of their products and they all failed to stand up to day to day use. The Dewalt set posted above is probably a much better bet. Or Bosch make decent blades and drill bits.

Agree on the Wera bits though.

For drivers you can't beat Wera. I use these at work daily and they dont get any wear on the heads or loose bite on screws.

Drill bit wise I tend to get cheaper ones for home and just replace them when they are blunt, saves messing around sharpening on a grinder like I do at work. Iv a smallish bosch set that has been fine for general DIY.
