Spec Me Drill Bits

I've botched a job of putting up a spice rack on the kitchen wall. I've sorted the holes now, however I suspect the botch comes down to the drill and bits that I've used. I measured very carefully, twice.

The drill bits I'm using seem to be slightly bent. There's a few mm range of movement at the tip and I think that's what has done it. It's a very inexpensive Bosch set, but it seems to have been made from cheese.

I like the box and much of the stuff in it is fine - screwdriver stuff etc.

So I want to replace the individual drill bits with high quality ones.

Can anyone recommend a particular range from a particular manufacturer? I'm looking at DeWalt at the moment, and I'm not really sure why I have it in my head it's good stuff....

Since it's drill bits then money isn't a big concern, it won't total up to much anyway.

What do you think?

The problem was the holes didn't end up where they were supposed to be. They were a few mm out and it's a large wire rack, meaning it wouldn't go up.

The actual holes themselves were fine for the rawl plugs, and the screws went in fine. It's a plaster on brick wall.

The problem is if I look at the end of the drill bit while the drill is on it's a blur because the drill bit is not straight (and it might be the drill isn't spinning it straight) so any holes I try to drill will be slightly out.

Dude, what colour was the drill bit you used?
Matt silver? If you're asking if I used a metal (black) or wood (copper) drill bit then no, I didn't.

Bosch ones come fairly well recommended, even the fairly inexpensive sets if it's just for diy jobs. You sure you had the drill in the chuck properly?
I'm sure, yeah. The set was rated highly on Amazon. However I've used it a fair bit and some of the walls I've used it on are very hard and have required several minutes drilling. I very much doubt many people using the bosch drill bits have walls like that so they've not come across that.

Can't really see it as being over the top since they don't cost much. As for tungsten carbide tipped... that's not going to stop them bending. I've also just found out my drill isn't spinning straight even with nothing in the chuck... so it's out too.

Why is it in "spec me" threads people need to justify it?

My drill is 9 years old, and doesn't spin straight. My drill bits are blunt and bent. I need new ones and I appreciate that some of you are trying to help, but so far it's just been arguments with me as if I'm some sort of retard.

I can't think of a circumstance where I've used my cordless screwdriver where a corded would not have done the job fine, so a corded it'll be this time.

I'm looking at this for a drill and I'll get the drill bits to replace the spaces in the Bosch set I have.

Edit : Kesz. I don't mind spending whatever it costs for drill bits since it's not going to go over £30 no matter what I do.. the drill on the other hand I could spend hundreds on something which clearly isn't warranted. The DeWalt one I linked above seems to be right - I fancy a keyed chuck, while I guess most people see a keyless as an advantage. To me that looks like a reasonable quality basic corded drill.

I'm just a poor old man. I have no time for law-breakers. My legs are grey. My ears are gnarled. My eyes are old and bent.

:)

On an aside I've grabbed a set of bits by DeWalt on eBay and the drill from Amazon. That's the end of that problem I suspect. I should have realised last year when I was getting some work in the bathroom done and the joiner had left his drill at his house, he went back for it rather than use mine.
