Guys,

Moving into my first house soon after a major refurb!

So I am going to need to get everything from scratch..... So I am after some recommendations for pans, cooking trays etc etc

I am after a set which will last its time and be good quality so I would prefer to spend some money on a set which will last for years, instead of a set that will last a year and then become rubbish!

Thanks a lot!

It would help if you gave an idea of budget as things can get wildly expensive. But at the lower end you can do worse than a tefal non stick 28cm wok and frying pan.

Buy once, buy well made stuff.

You don't need to buy everything at once. Better to buy decent stuff and build it up, than buy cheap and have to replace it. Like you can easily survive on just two proper kitchen knifes, rather than a set of 7.

Do you have anything?
Whats your budget?

What will you need?
Redecorated with out knowing what you have or where it will go, that was a mistake.

Well I thought about £400 for pans and around £100 for knives.

Literally have nothing so need a good full pan set. Like to do my cooking so need a full pan set.

Thanks a lot.

So its just pans and knifes you need?
Or litterally everything.
Electric whisk, chopping board, scales, glass/metal bowels, cup/spoon measurements, food processor, chef rings, spatulas, etc etc etc.

Knifes is a personal thing, look at the knife thread and get down a kitchen shop and try them out, no one can recommend you a set of knifes. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18382614&highlight=Knife

As for pans, depends if you like hard anodised, ceramic, stainless steal, copper, cast iron.

Personally i like hard anodised, although fine they last about 5 years. But while they last just unmatched slipperiness. Really like cast iron as well but they are maintenance heavy. Cant stand stainless or ceramic.

Anolon professional reymond blanc are very good hard anodised. And can get the two skillet set for £50.

Well, it's not a huge amount for good pans/ knives.

I would suggest you buy for now a decent chefs knife like a wusthof classic, or just try some on for size in a cookware shop (you'll know when it's right). £100 won't get you a set, well, it might get you victorinox which are sort of the bare minimum for usable knives I think.

Pans? Well you're the chef, what pans do you use often? I swear by Bourgeat and £400 would probably get you a few common pans if prices haven't risen too much - frying pan, 2 sizes of saucepan (18 and 22 are most common) and maybe a saute pan as well, plus lids.

For cast iron I don't think you need anything fancy at all, a reasonably heavy skillet. And I'd just get a cheap stock pot if all you're gonna use it for is stockmaking, bigger is better with stockpots I think, you can always underfill but never overfill but keep in mind the footprint on the hob.

Circulon baking trays are my favourites, and a baking stone is a must if you bake bread/ pizzas (cast iron preferable).
