Spec me for £700 - £800 (very max) - everything

At the risk of seeming stubborn, I would still go for what I suggested, plus an OEM copy of Vista Home Premuim.

Skimp on anything other than maybe downgrading the CPU (to an E6300) and you'll see a dramatic loss in performance tbh. Those parts really do make a superb mid-range machine.

You're telling me a e6400 is better then the e6300, and of course you're right, but its nothing short of wasted money as i can pretty much guarantee that the e6300 will clock to the e6400 speeds, and some more to, though this is board limited. I hav'nt seen anything to suggest an e6400 will definately clock better then an e6300 either.

Compared to his old rig it'll seem fast with either CPU at stock or overclocked.

I did actually say that buying an E6300 rather than an E6400 is not really an issue. :)
