Normally I'd do the research on this myself but life's a bit hectic so I'm outsourcing it to you guys

Basic requirements:

Conroe, 4MB L2
Asus motherboard (hopefully at least one spare PCI-E port?)
Nvidia Dual DVI
2GB RAM
Seagate SATA, about 160GB but more the merrier.

Already got:

350W Enermax PSU (fairly ancient - no SATA or PCI-E connectors, but should do the job given a Molex->SATA adapter?)
Case
Monitors
Sound card/speakers
DVDRW
etc

Budget is about £700-800.

Thats not a problem, you can use an old 775 cpu to flash to the conroe ready bios OR just email Asus when you have your board and they'll give you your free bios chip already loaded with the latest bios. Its not a problem!

Edit: Unfortunate that it has to be an Nvidia GFX card, or you could have gone for the X1800XT

My current chip is S478 so the motherboard has to be compatible out-of-the-box. Also don't need WiFi

Do Gigabyte have any decent motherboards for Conroe yet?

Yes, the DS3, DS4 and DQ6 seem to be very decent motherboards. Anandtech report a 41% overclock on an E6700 with the GA_965P_DQ6.

imo get the evga card, they dont have the horrid ram problems that the others suffer.

You will need a new psu mate.
