Hi all,

After a new MTB to keep in with the crowd at work. Did a lot of mountain biking in my youth - done a bit of roadie stuff recently (just commuting) but I'd like to get back in to the MTB side.

After a hardtail for max 1k, new, on 0% finance.

I'm 5'10, ~100kg. Very unfit but hoping the mtb will help that! I should use the roadie more but it's just not fun commuting in. I have no problem cycling the 13 or so miles each way, but wouldn't use the roadbike for fun as it's just not my cuppa.

I'd prefer a 1x drivetrain, but that's about the only spec I'm fussed about. Seen a few hardtails being reduced recently, but not sure what fork is ~= to what.

There's a Marin nailtrail 6 @ Paul's cycles for £770 at the mo - a decent buy? I can't find any sizing recommendations for it, but assume a 17" frame would be fine @ 5'10.

Also got my eye on an Orange Clockwork S, but again not sure if it's worth the extra over the Marin. If someone could point me in the right direction I'd be grateful.

Cheers

Chain reaction cycles do PayPal 0% credit, look at the Vitus Sentier at £999, if you join British cycling you'll get a code for 10% off so that's £900. Its a little better specced than the Marin but that's looks decent too.

Have a look at the NS Eccentric. I bought one a few weeks back to help me shift some weight. The bike is great, the weight loss not so much. Or, check the Pinkbike classifieds. There's a very nice full carbon Giant XTC Advanced on there at the moment for £750....
