Spec Me Help - £500 budget

Hi all,

I've been out of the hardware game for many years now but need to build myself a new system. The rig will be used mainly for programming and web development, photoshop, etc.

I've got a monitor, keyboard and mouse already but need the rest. I've been looking around and catching up with things but still need some help on what's what.

I won't be doing any gaming at all so feel on-board gfx will suffice, or am I wrong? I think Sandybridge is the way to go and have been looking at an i5 2300, is that my best bet? Will 4GB be enough or should i push for 8GB?

Budget is £400-500. Help!? Cheers

Yes I'd need an OS so need to factor that in too. Looking at that spec I could save a few quid on a cheaper case and the i5 2300 instead of i5 2500 ... but now I've just spotted the i5 2500K on this week only, what's the difference of the K?

Sorry for sounding a noob, but do you need a specific motherboard to take advantage of the 1600MHz RAM?

i know you cant overclock with the motherboard you posted above, but you should change the processor to the retail K version because its actually cheaper.

The "K" also has the faster inbuilt gpu

The K signifies it is able to overclock using the P67 chipset motherboards only at the moment and a slightly better gpu.

The board speced can take the ram but will run at a lower speed, the slower version only saves a few ££.

Hear is an AMD build with OS and built in graphics. I just noticed you mentioned Sandybridge. So posted anyways just to keep yer options open.

EDIT: Bigger pic. Also that is the same hard drive and CPU I use. Very easy to overclock that CPU. Mine runs great at 3.8 on air ofc that differs depending on system.

Reaper, don't forget you would need a GPU as well.

Looks good, one thing to remember is the K version can't be overclocked with that board, but you do get the better onboard gpu
