It's only 6 months since i built my Q6600 (spec @ sig below) but somebody just put deposit for my machine and managed to sell inc my Samsung 2253BW for really good price :D

My main use will be for gaming, photo processing i.e. CS4, NX2, etc, HD blu ray so i want full hd monitor as well :)

So i'm looking for an i7 build now. Thinking about getting these:

Any other suggestions? Would like to keep around the same price. Still not sure which mobo either P6T Deluxe, Gigabyte UD5/UD4 (what's the difference?), DFI UT X58 (too expensive...:( ). For psu either be quiet or corsair (not sure)

Any other suggestions please let me know cos need to order by tomorrow night the latest as i need to give my pc away next week :(

I have Blu ray drive, 500gb samsung F1, Xonar D2X, Logitech mouse and keyboard, Fortress FT01B-W and Vista Ultimate 64bit so only need above.

Many thanks :D

edit:
Still deciding for coolers, was looking at Thermalright IFX-14 (not sure fit i7?) or maybe Thermalright Ultra 120-Extreme or Coolermaster V8. I will be WC-ing in the future as need to save again :)

On the subject of coolers, the Noctua is very quiet and has perfectly acceptable cooling performance. Others seriously rate it [at least up there with the TRUE but quieter for similar performance it seems], my one ain't so good but I might have mis-mounted it or need to lap my Q6600 - or I might have a bad CPU full stop. Idling at 40Deg on stock, ugh.

As for the GPU, how much of a grunt increase is there from an 4890 from, say, a pair of 4770s in Crossfire? The smaller fab priocess [is it 45nm or 55nm? Er....it's smaller anyway..;) ] is supposed to be quite cool running, so I'd expect headroom for overclocking there.

Other than that, looks like a pretty tasty system.

Although I'm happy to say I'll have more RAM than you. Even if it is just DDR2 :(

[FWIW I spent about that much on the rig I'm posting on now a couple of weeks ago, full system from the ground up. Can't imagine upgrading it again till Nehelams and the associated RAM and Mobos can be bundled for, say, £250-300...you're currently looking at £600 for those alone  rather you than me :D]

I think i just got lucky that somebody bought my system quite high price so i only need to add a wee tiny bit for i7 :D

The more and more reviews i read, the more confuse i am

If UD5 came with black board, i would snap that straight away.... :)

Hi, if you haven't already ordered I have some suggestions:

Get this Ram instead, same speed but cheaper. OCZ is a very good make of RAM.

Get the Gigabyte UD5 , its a brilliant board (here is a review).

This 4890 is cheaper and with the voltage tweak tech it will overclcok very well (950MHz core).

Be Quiet make brilliant PSUs, get that one.

For better overclocking, get the D0 stepping of the i7 920.

Final Spec:

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz £241.98
HIS ATI Radeon HD 4890 Turbo 1024MB GDDR5 £239.99
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) £234.99
Samsung SM2433BW 24" £219.98
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 750W ATX2.2 Modular £120.99
OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 (1600MHz) £79.99

Total: ££1,153.75 inc shipping

Any good?
