Spec me... Inline skates and a skate shop in Bristol

I used to play roller hockey some 7 years ago but since finishing uni I gave up skating and haven't been out at all in the last few years. I'm looking to get back into it - not the hockey, far to dangerous at my age(!) but just to cover the 1.25 miles to work and back. My old skates are pretty dead so new ones needed.

I'm totally out of touch with the scene - a few minutes on the 'net and the K2 Moto 90 looks like a good skate. I've used K2 in the past but don't know anything about their latest stuff or Roces or other manufactures.

So - any recommendations for a decent skate? And can someone point me towards a decent skate shop in Bristol?

Cheers.

There is a skateshop near the top of park street on colston street, I believe (Towards the hospital from the top of park street).

No idea if its any good, sorry!

No offence, but you're planning on rocking up at work with a suit, briefcase and a pair of blades? :p

I don't wear a suit... who uses a briefcase these days?

Not aggressive - I'm not 15 any more! I have my eye on theses:

No idea on skate shops in bristol but do everything you can to try and source some Salomon Crossmax. Salomon have pulled out of the skate market so the Crossmax S-Lab2 (hi-lo chassis, remember those from your hockey days? ;)) or 3VSL are the only ones you're likely to find but they are without a doubt the best skates ever!! :D

My Crossmax 3's finally gave up the ghost after 2 years of abuse so i've just bought a pair of Seba FR1. They're good, very quick, stable at speed and turn well but the boot is really wide, which is great if you're a freak less so if you're normal.

This any use? http://www.serpentineroad.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25386&highlight=k2+soul

Oh to own a pair of red Oxygen Argon 1.1's or some Roces Majestic 13 twelves.

I had to do with a pair of riced up Roces Romes back in the day :(

i find the guys that run skater owned stores to be tools (zomg im better than you because i have my own shop YO ) and overpriced :p

some may be but they generally tend to help the local scene and not just in it to make a fast buck out of little kids whos mums come in to buy everything with a heartogram on it

I had a pair of Majestic 12s in the day, they cost me £240.

hehe, this brings back memories. I used to skate for Roces, Hangers, medium wheels/clothing back in the old days. Get a nice set of Roces. I think they've released a new version of the majestic 12s. Nice simple skates. don't look like moon boots and can take some punishment.

Have Bauer stopped making inline skates? I had (still have somewhere) some pretty expensive 'blades of theirs back in the day. Occasionally squeeze my size 8s into those size 6 boots every now and again before the pain becomes too much.

Have looked recently to see about getting replacements and no-one does them anymore and no mention of them on the official site.

Think Bauer only do hockey skates now

Holy thread revival, Batman!

Like the OP, I need to know of some shops in Brizzle where I can buy some inline skates... any Bristolians know of anywhere I should go? The wife's off to see about getting her eyes zapped with lasers, so I'm gonna have some time to kill and I promised my nipper I'd replace his worn out skates.

Oh, and has anyone else that's into inline skating got any suggestions on what brands are good for kids?

kthnxbye
