I'm in the situation that my two existing Nest Protect Smoke/CO detectors are due for replacement in June 2025 after reaching the end of their operational life. They've been absolutely great working alongside my Nest Thermostat and never given me a moments issue, which is why I was all set to replace them like for like until I saw the news on Friday 28th March 2025 that Google had decided to kill the Nest Protect product from their Nest range :( : https://www.theverge.com/news/63817...st-protect-smoke-alarm-nest-x-yale-smart-lock

With living in Scotland the Scottish Government passed legislation that all new homes and older homes being sold need to have an Interconnected Smoke Alarm system fitted. The Nest Thermostat/Nest Protect System never met this standard (This is because they do not meet the requirements for a heat alarm under the relevant British Standard. British Standard (BS 5839-6:2019) states that only heat alarms should be installed in kitchens.) and since I have no plans to sell my home it made no sense to make the jump and invest into an Interconnected Smoke Alarm system at the time the new law was passed. The Nest Protect's served my needs perfectly and in my view would be safer in the event of a CO Leak as the Nest Protects would tell my Nest Thermostat to shut off the boiler.

With no option now but to replace my Nest Protects I'm looking for a recommendation for an Interconnected Smoke Alarm System which will bring my home up to code with the law in Scotland: https://www.gov.scot/publications/fire-and-smoke-alarms-in-scottish-homes/

I currently have:
1x Nest Protect (Wired) in my Hall
1x Nest Protect (Wired) in my Kitchen

I need: New Interconnected Smoke Alarm System:
1x Smoke Alarm (Ideally Wired - Living Room)
1x Smoke Alarm (Wired - Hall (Replacing Nest Protect)
1x Heat Alarm (Wired - Kitchen (Replacing Nest Protect)
1x CO Detector (Ideally Wired - Garage - Gas Combi Boiler)

It would be great to have the system visible via Apple Home (HomeKit/Matter) like I have my Nest system but I'm guessing that won't be possible.

Any help or recommendations would be great:)

I'm also in a similar boat. I have two Nest Protects and they've been great (in that they have been problem free and have alerted correctly with smoke from cooking etc) but are due for replacement later this year. I was also considering buying more of them...and I guess I still could if I can find stock, but also keen to see what else is out on the market as it's something I've not looked at for some time!

Unfortunately from what I can see there isn't a like for like replacement available in the UK. Google is partnering with First Alert in the USA & Canada to develop and manufacture a similar replacement product....looks like the UK is out of luck! :(

This is the closest I could find on the forum to leaks, for smoke alarms I use Safelincs. With regards to the official rules, I don't pay them much heed but ensure that where I place them in my home is of the utmost safety, with regular checks etc. Not quite the weekly test we use to have at school but always been afraid of fires as a kid and watching titanic haha.

When I asked a few years back, AICO was the suggested product and what I installed.
Doesn't have Home link but I've got it wired into the House alarm as an aux input so if its triggered I get notified, they may have newer products now that can link in a smarter way.
