Hi Guys,

Im after a laptop , budget is around 450 - 650

It would be ideal if it had a half decent gfx card with large storage and the laptop if poss should be lightweight....

please help guys

thanks in advance...

p.s. if dual core with vista is possible please let me know, i get confused with laptop processors, especially when dual core, please can you tell me what the bestest processor to go for is??

thanks

cuz everything is dual these days right?

can someone guide me through what the processors mean and what the best ones are?

for example: t200, turion, etc etc which ones are the ones to go for?

thanks in advance...

p.s. if its against the rules please email me, email in trust....

thanks

Yeah you'll need dual core for browsing
A single core machine will be fine for vast majority of stuff, the bottleneck is the hard drive anyway.

Dual core CPU's use more power, therefore shorter battery life.

So what do you need it for? If it's just net, 1GB RAM, 1.7ghz Centrino will be fine.

can u email me where i will be able to find one from?

also just for my personal ref would u mind emailing me dual core laptop prices with spec info?

thanks in advance..

cheers

not a bad one there, thanks lewis, thats dual core right?

How about the same model with a better gfx card?

Please help

thanks

Hey.

I've just bought a new laptop and the best deal to be found was from Dell, over the phone sales department.

Got the following spec for £479!! :)

AMD Turion 64Bit X2 Dual Core Processor - TL56
2GB DDR2 Memory
120GB SATA HDD
ATI Xpress 1150 256MB Hypermemory Gfx
15.4" WXVGA Truelife Screen
8xDVD RW +/-
Wireless b/g
Webcam
Vista Basic ( Will be install my own anyway)

After searching for about three days straight, this deal blew the others out of the water.

Not sure about the weight though, but the spec for the price is amazing imho.

Aside from a Celeron/Sempron, you aren't going to find many single core notebooks these days. And if you do, they're usually old stock, which would personally put me off, because they're probably not going to handle Vista too well either (due to low RAM, slow CPU and probably a graphics chipset incapable of doing Aero).

Couldn't care less about Vista. If I bought a new laptop and it had Vista it'll be wiped within the first half hour. A slower single core, 1GB RAM, integrated graphics will be fine for XP which has a few years of life yet, and by that time XP is phased out the laptop will be well used.

There are Centrino laptops still around, however I've noticed older models aren't discounted, the new models are £50 extra but with extra 40GB hard drive, double the RAM, dual core so you can't get a bargain. :(

Just specced up a new laptop for a mates dad.

Now what he bought was slightly out of your budget at £799

But I looked round (by actually visiting shops ;)) at nearly all the top makes and quality wise HP had the best chassis by far imo.

Suprisngly Acer wern't far behind, though their designs leave a little to be desired.

Some of the worst quality wise were undoubtedly samsungs that I looked at (though the lower end compaqs and HP's wernt great...)

also worth noting when i say HP, i mean their "shiny" chassis with the slightly raised silver touchpad.

Gotta say though for £799 the one he bought was a bargain.

HP dv2530ea

1.8Ghz C2D Santa Rosa (New One with faster FSB more cache etc)
2GB 667RAM
160GB HD
absolutely gorgeous 14" Screen
Wifi/BT etc etc
The "new" Intel 3100 graphics, supposedly not too bad
remote control / DVB tuner
8 cell battery
inbuilt webcam etc etc

and being a 14" model its very small and light

That was £799 basically everywhere that sold it (cant link for obvious reasons)

If you can find one using that chassis though and with a "old" C2D with some of the other features you want within your price range you wont be dissapointed with the quality, I can tell you that much :)
