Replacing my DFI Lan party mobo (supposedly broken atm) and my 3500+ AMD64

What upgrade would you advise me to get, X2 processers worth it?

(needs to be PCI-E Mobo)

Edit - Looking to spend around £300 ish, or less if the extra spent is hardly worth it

£99.95 £99.95
Subtotal £279.85
VAT £48.98
Total £328.83

Or if you wanted to keep your RAM and be under budget:

well obviously the most appealing option out these three would be conroe. but if your not inclined to do abit of overclocking then i dont think it would really be worth getting conroe. and would go for the 4400+x2 instead. although conroe would be more future proof if u were to go with socket 939

Ok here goes, im going to spend more than i planned (Makes a change)

How about an E6600 and the gigabyte board you mentioned with a decent heatsink? :P or do i need a certain speed of ram?

No, the RAM is very good, especially at that price  If you're going to be spending a bit more then it may be worth getting a better cooler :) Also, what PSU do you have?

Seasonic S12 600W - Ok, what cooler then? -

E6600 + Gigabyte G1 Turbo + ? (Hell, if youe going to do it i might as well do it right :P)

i was thinking Thermaltake Sonic Tower 4-in-1 Noiseless Heatpipe (Socket 939/754/775/478) CPU Cooler (CL-P0071) (HS-009-TT)

with a 120mm fan on it that i have on my xp-90 now?

Should i press Buy? :P

To be honest, I would stick with the DS3 as it seems pretty good value for money and people have had very good overclocking results with them. The cooler, I'm not sure on- the thermaltakes always used to be very good on S939 and S754 but I've not heard much about them on S775 but anything will be better than the stock cooler I guess. Just looking at that cooler though, I would make sure it fits your case first and even then I'm not sure how good it is :)

Just to clarify, the RAM you have in your current A64 system will be DDR. So if you are planning to go intel core2duo or AMD sktAM2 you will need to budget for DDR2 RAM, as your current DDR would not work

Oh yeah, never noticed you didn't have any RAM in your spec. I wondered how he'd managed to get an E6600 and a much more expensive motherboard for only a bit more than my spec :o

Ok i ordered it anyway, the XP-90 is massive too, just not as tall, but it will fit in my case.

So my old system

S12 Seasonic 600w
DFI-U Lan Party Mobo
3500+ AMD64 (Newcastle)
7800GTX EE
2GB GeiL value

To

E6600 Conroe
G1-Turbo (probalby should have done what you said.. but im an idiot)
7800GTX EE still
2gb GeiL value still

So, will i notice much of a difference? Cant see any bottlenecks as such, maybe the value ram / graphics card, im not sure :D

Hmm, I'd try and phone OcUK to try and get the order changed to the DS3 and add the RAM on otherwise you'll pay postage twice. Won't make the RAM so expensive either that way :) Or just see if you can scrap it and go with my original Conroe spec
