Spec me Mobo / RAM / CPU / SSD Please

oops, looks like i forgot to paste in the graphics card lol. this is the one i'm hoping to get:

MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £199

except i was going to go for the non-OC version (i can overclock myself if i want to so why pay someone else to do it) which ocuk has stopped stocking now unfortunately. it was £30 less expensive too :(. i may have to look elsewhere. MSI twin frozr coolers seem to be the best on the market right now, so whatever card you choose, you can't go wrong with one which has that cooler on it (MSI HAWK cards also use same cooler).

you didn't specify a budget so it's harder for us to judge what would be a good buy for you. if you don't want to use the intel cooler, then a cheaper alternative to Dave's suggestion would be:

Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler £26

it's a nice cooler and has a very good reputation (i see it specced often here on the forums).

the asrock board dave specified is probably a decent choice as it's not much more than the asus i mentioned earlier. think i'll be going for the asus in my build though as i prefer the asus UEFI BIOS.

Thanks Sheep.

Thanks also for the build Dave - over 70£ for an air cooler seems excessive. Does this out perform the corsair h80 for the same price? Im currently using the Tuniq tower which was nowhere near that and at the time I understood to be a very good cooler.

Eddscott - are you happy with your build?

The Silver Arrow is £20 cheaper and maybe 1C cooler out of the box, but is never in stock. If you're willing to wait a while get that. I wasn't, so went with the Noctua (was on special offer when I got mine).
I've tested with LinX and Prime @ almost 5GHz 1.38v temps eventually touch 70C, but only had my case fans running medium.
They're on min now, @ 4.4GHz auto Ock. Browsing web, watching DVB-T and using word and excell, temps rarely top 30C.
Max temps after a few hours gaming under 45C.
I did look at the h80, but both these air coolers outperform it for cooling and noise levels ;)

Test Setup

CPU - Intel Core i7 920 - 2.66/4.0GHz
RAM - 6GB (3x2GB) OCZ Platinum DDR3 1333MHz
Motherboard - ASUS Rampage III Extreme
Graphics card - XFX HD5870 1024MB
Power Supply - Enermax Revolution 85+ 850W
Hard Drive – OCZ Vertex 2E 120GB
Case - Lian Li B25B
Samsung F1 320GB
Samsung F3 1TB
Drivers - ATI Catalyst 11.7

In the next comparison, we look at the default cooler performance as they come out of the box with their bundled fans. Coolers that come with no fans have been coupled with Noctua’s NF-P12 or fans that the manufacturers intended their coolers to be used with.

As you can see the Tuniq Tower will fit and provide adequate cooling. But obviously it's not up there with the best ones ;)
