Hope pro II with mavic rims and DT swiss spokes front and rear.

Which mavic rim you go for depends on your type of riding. I have the EN521 with hope pro II for all mountain riding and it's amazing!

try Merlin cycles custom built;

Front - Hope pro II (blue), DT s/s DB, XC717 Black Disc £91
Rear - Hope pro II (blue), DT s/s DB, XC717 Black Disc £156

change some bits here an there you can get it in budget, the above is only £247 which is a good price

I just bought a 2nd set of Pro II wheels built up as my lighter weight tubeless wheels for endurance racing.

Thoroughly recommend Pro II hubs here.

depends on what your doing with the rims, I've smashed up mavic 719 pretty easy on rocks which are stronger than 717, running DT Swiss 5.1 now, as for the hubs pro II are awesome just remember to use an alloy cassette or your free hub body will get cut up bad.

I used to run 317's (now 717's) on Hope XC's (predecessor to Pro 2's), lasted fairly well but just couldn't hack the battering I gave them over time - even with 5" of travel.

Have a look at the Hope hoops with DT 4.2's for XC duties, or EX5.1D's for something a little stronger.

Never had wheels from CRC, had one from Merlin that was pretty good but Life-cycles are the cheapest with wheels (even cheaper than CRC), and their build quality is decent as well. Didn't need to true the wheels even after a few bad crashes.

Might be because they run wheelbuilding courses so should have a fair bit of experience.

I bought the rear wheel only, Will get the Front in a few months. The specs:

Hope Pro 2 Disc Rear
Blue
Mavic XC717 Disc Rim
DT Swiss Spokes Competition Stainless DB

Should be a lot lighter than the wheels that are being replaced:

XT Disc Hub Rear M756 Black 32h 6-Bolt
Mavic MTB 26" EX325 Disc Rim
Champion Stainless PG Black

Bought by mistake thinking that they were the lightest available. Oh I was a bike numpty when i got these in 2006.

Thanks for your thoughts and advice :)
