This is for a m8 who wants a quicker pc then he has currently for producing music, he doesnt need a monitor, mouse, speakers etc.. Just a base pc with quicker processor/ram and stuff. Currently has 1ghz amd and 256mb ram! Has a budget of around £300 but maybe willing to spend more if it makes a difference.

Something like this.....

CP-150-AM AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 90nm (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-150-AM)
£94.95 £94.95

£56.95 £56.95

Total £384.99

You can take out the HDD & DVD if not req'd, you could also save a little money by going for a cheaper CPU, but this one is the cheapest 1mb L2 cache chip.

for music making id almosst certainly go dual core...
my brother deos a lot of work in cubase and it appears to be quite CPU intensive.

id reccomend an intel 805, dual core for uner £100, decent mobo will see it past 3.8 Ghz

**EDIT**
what else can be usesd fromthis current PC, HDDs, DVDs, CASE etc... more info please as this is a very tight budget

He uses fruityloops more than cubase, but could re-use his case/cd-rw and stuff i guess and probs his HDD as he aint using all of the space on that.

Ideally needs new pro/ram/mobo and soundcard as hes also using the onboard at mo

Add in an M audio Audiophile 2496 for about £58 elsewhere which has 4in/out digital and midi and asio 2 drivers.Don`t buy a cheap creative card.
Have a look on music producing forums for more advice but with either of those amd/pentium he`ll notice a huge leap in performance. The dual core pentium looks a bargain with an insane overclock, check the thread on it in the cpu section.

All i use my pc is for Music production.

If he's using FL mostly your best having about 2GB or ram, as by the time hes filled up the segencer and starts running plugins could slow the whole thing down.
