So I am looking for some backup airsoft guns, and apart from a pistol (gonna get the KWA Glock 19), I also want a shotgun.

I was havin a look around, and with backup weapons being backup weapons, I don't want to spend too much, and here's what I thought of as alternatives:

Benelli M3 - Shorty

Pro's:
-very good fps for springer
-3 barrels
-good weight
-not too long/unwieldy
-cheap

Con's:
-fixed hop-up
-springer
-no ejecting shells
-metal parts??

M1100

Pro's:
-gas
-weight
-v. short
-ejecting shells

Con's:
-fixed hop-up
-fps is disappointing
-single barrel
-less BBs per shell
metal(??)

So which one do you recommend? Despite the (much) added fun of ejecting shells, the fps (and extra barrels) are making me tend towards the M3...but it doesn't have ejecting shells...but will never run out of gas....ah, which one to pick...

Or do you have any alternative suggestions, for shotguns in a similar price range?

Do you really want to be worried about picking up the shells from the M1100? If you get a shell catcher it kinda defeats the cool point of it as you won't be able to see them. I'm not a huge fan of the TM shotguns, they're very plasticy and light IMO. The Maruzen 870 range aren't too bad, and theres a lot of accessories available for them.

if you want "shotgun-coolness" the Maruzen 870 wins, but it's not very practical, and unless you do some very intensive mods, it very low on the power scale.

the TM shotties are (as Ned said) quite plastic-y, but when it comes to Skirmishability, they win hands down. (just make sure you don't half-**** it, because that will bugger it up completely, and no-one knows how to fix 'em)

<edit> if you do get a TM-shotty, the full length M3 is much better than the M3 shorty, because the action is rather hard to work consistently if you're only holding on with you other hand, plus, it will be much easier to aim with the stock.

What AEG do you have?

None, I was renting at the site (mostly TM M16 'Nam, sometimes Mp5), but either this payday or next, I'm getting this baby:

CA M4 Tactical

What won me over is the battery location :D

EDIT: Well, from the looks of it I should go for the Benelli. Do you reckon it will take .43g ammo, for extra CQB nastyness? :D

Nice AEG choice, but why would you want to use very expensive and slow Ammo? .25s would be fine.

it would work, but it wouldn't work well.

Ned, sure, the new 870 is great, but its not got the TM stamp of reliability.
<edit> also, 300FPS with what? .12s, .2s, .25s, and how many of them? one, two? three? eight?

not funny.

the minigun is both unreliable and inconvenient.

and its range is rubbish because there is no hop.

Skirmishing on proper Airsoft sites. All legit :) Organised similarly to Paintball in the way you have 2 teams and a safe zone etc but the games are oh so much better and way more realistic.

The spring version of the 870 (CA870?) is alright. Its uses a magazine so no worries about shells. Its also got an ajustable hop iirc. Its got plenty of upgrades about for in on WGC wich can take it all the way up to 600FPS its fairly easy aswell with very nice accuacy. theres plenty of cosmetic mods for it asl well, you can spend as much as you like on one.

0.2s obviously, as thats what most FPS recordings are done with. And it fires one shot, but thats all you need. I haven't seen any mention of massive flaws or the like with them, everyone says they're pretty good.
