Spec me my first tripod?

Hey,

The old dear was going to get me a tripod for xmas (too late now I know ) but I'm looking for something that will hold a 600d and at max currently 55-250mm lense.

If there are any that won't break the bank I'd appreciate some suggestions

Might want to be more specific about 'breaking the bank'

Breaking the bank is very vague. How big is your bank, £100, £500?

Anyway, look at Redsnapper stuff. Ignore the heads (well, get the free kit head, but look at upgrading down the line). I've got a D3 and some hefty lenses and the legs hold it admirably, especially considering the price (£50 at the time). I've upgraded to a Gitzo head (~£280) and was looking at upgrading the legs, but in all honesty you don't gain much until you're looking at the £500+ Gitzos.
