My friend wants to make desktop that will be used for things like 3ds Max, Maya, Photoshop etc. as well as other general PC stuff and gaming. The budget is about £600 but can stretch over that (upto £1000 if really worth it). Needs everything except monitor, including OS mouse and keyboard.

Thanks

Get a 2500k and a z68 motherboard which will add another £50 + to jony 27 build and maybe up the psu to 650w in case you want to add another gpu at a later date.

i was going to do that but, i tried staying as low as possible while still maintaining a good price/performance ratio.

IMO, this worth the upgrade without spending a grand.

Can replace with a 6870 (good price-performance), a weaker PSU, 500GB HDD bundle, but I'd keep the 2500K. Software may prefer NVIDIA though.

That looks good but he would prefer 8gb ram. Any reason not to get the G.Skill 2x4gb?

Probably best to get an after market cooler as well. Recommendations on that front?

thats the reason for maybe not going with the gskill memory, the cooler fins can cause issues trying to fit 3rd party coolers, if there cooling fins extend towards the memory slots.

cooler wise have a look at the Gelid Tranquillo.
