Looking for a new GPU to replace my existing 970. About 400 is price range, so looking at Vega 56/64 or 1070ti I think.

I game at 1440p, monitor does 60 FPS and no intention to replace it. I might buy a Rift if Black Friday sales look okay.

CPU is kinda old now, i5 3550k at 4.2

PSU is pretty decent, platinum rated 750w. Case is a bit pokey, fortress 2 - so might have some heat issues.

The Vega cards currently come with Assassins Creed which i’d Likely buy anyway so that’s a 30-40 discount for me.

Imo the PowerColor Vega 56 is the best deal for you. The 1070tis are way too close in price to the Vega 64s and without the game bundle are clearly worse value. Depending on how long you want to keep the GPU it may or may not be worth to get the V64 (I'd say about 10% performance difference).

The cheapest 1070ti is around £420. AC:O will save you another £30. Let's say you sell off the other 2 for £15 each, that's another £30. The PowerColor V56 is £400. That means it effectively is £80 cheaper than the cheapest 1070ti. Considering it's on par performance wise with it, it doesn't make sense to buy the 1070ti. And if you ever get a new TV with VRR, you can also enjoy that for free (and Vegas scale better at 4K than the 1070ti as well). The only downside to the V56 is the higher power consumption, which can be well managed, see for example this bloke's results.

thanks, I pulled the trigger on the vega 56 for £390, with the assassins creed game that I would buy anyway it seemed like a solid deal. it has the same 6pin and 8pin inputs as my kfa2 970 as well, so no hunting around for cables and it's only slightly longer so should just about fit. Checked my PSU, it's an Enermax Revolution 750W so should have no trouble with this card.

Awesome, enjoy it! If you do OC it I'd be curious to see the performance in AC:OD with my settings if you don't mind.

I really enjoyed the Strange Brigade campaign so it may be worth looking at some reviews and Youtube vid's to see if you think it's worth keeping that as well, I haven't tried Star Control yet.

Look up and make sure you use iChill in the settings. You can have different profiles for each game. iChill draws down power when the GPU isn't having to work as hard. Very handy bit of software.

As was said before. Check out undervolting too. Your card runs faster (higher min FPS) with less volts. it's a bit of a mad one to get your head around, but it works :)

Yeah, I’ll read up a bit and flash it and mess around with volts and speeds. See where I get.

Probs won’t have time for a bit, just moved house and living from boxes atm :)
