Hey my old man's got £1200 to spend on a new PC, now he basically needs everything apart from keyboard mouse speakers and Soundcard.

So can anyone spec me something nice, think he's looking towards dual core and a single GFX card maybe a 1800XT.

No needs for massive storage, he is basically a gamer :D

Any advice welcome :)

HD-024-SA Samsung SpinPoint P HD160JJ 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-024-SA) £49.95
CD-026-NE NEC ND4551 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM (CD-026-NE) £28.70
MB-003-SP Sapphire PURE Advantage CrossFire Radeon Xpress 200P CrossFire (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-003-SP) £79.95
MY-008-GS G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit (F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ) (MY-008-GS) £124.95
CA-001-SS Seasonic S12 500W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply (CA-001-SS)

Here's what I'd go for:

It's a little overbudget, but you could go for slightly lower spec ram like Geil Value, or you could lower the spec of the screen. IMO, no point getting a Crossfire board as Dual cards are worthless unless you play loads of games on a massive monitor, and they're always outpaced by a single card of the next generation.

I would go with the Maxtor MaxLine III NCQ 250GB 7V250F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM £63.95

It's more doller but its has 16MB Cache and a 5 year warranty

Allso worth a look is the Antec TruePower 2.0 550W PSU (CA-028-AN)
£64.95

The spec above is allso very good for the price

could get p4radox's spec under budget by going for 1 of the samsung 80 or 160gb drives.

Or dump the Silverstone case and get something a little less classy. I'd be inclined to go for some GeiL value or a 17" TFT to be honest, but it's all down to personal preferance. :)

good point, reason i said to drop the drives instead of anything else because the case looks damn nice and the memory is a good performer.
