Hi,

My XP2400 system isn't cutting it anymore and really want to install Vista 64 bit :(

Have around £400 to spend (already have hard disks (IDE and SATA), a case, CD/DVD drives and monitor - so would need mobo (must have LAN and about 6 USB ports), RAM, CPU, Power supply, GFX card. Not looking for an expensive GFX card as I don't use the PC to game anymore, but would like it to handle the viewing of HDs films.

Have been reading about the quad core Intel CPUs and would like to go down that route, as they seem fairly cheaop with good performance. Any ideas on what to get specifically as I haven't upgraded my PC for a good 2.5 years?

Thanks

Thanks!

Can you point me in the right direction that explains what wolfdale/conroe etc mean?

Wolfdale and Conroe are the names for the dual cores that Intel have, Wolfdale is newer and based on a 45nm process (less power required and lower heat generation) compared to the 65nm of the Conroes. Something like an E7200 (Wolfdale) would do you well.

Depending on what you pick a dual core should be cheaper than the Q6600, it is a nice system there though.

Oh that's just the codename. Wolfdale is the latest line/revision of Intel Core 2 Duo processors & start from E7xxx to E8xxx while Conroe E2xxx, E4xxx & E6xxx :)
