I'm thinking of getting a new PC in the coming months, and not having kept on track with hardware for ages I'm unsure about everything that's available (whats good or not). I'm wondering if someone would be able to spec me a rough idea together.

Thanks very much. :)

  • Nice looking quality, spacious case. Preferably black and preferably easy to keep tidy. Side window optional but preferable.
  • As cool and quiet as possible (maybe W/C)
  • Plenty of HDD space
  • Preferably quad cored
  • 4GB+ ram.
  • Preferably a top/high end Nvidia graphics card, SLi if money allows.
  • Power supply that can easily cope with everything.
  • At least a DVD R/W + maybe a bluray R/W depending on the cost.
  • Keyboard + mouse. Must be comfortable for regular use as well as gaming.
  • Good set of comfy surround headphones + sound card if needed, mainly for gaming.
  • Pair of matching monitors if money allows. Can be different sizes if needed. (ability to connect PS3 and Xbox a big +)
  • Operating system Vista/XP. (which ever's best for the machine)
  • Mainly for gaming as well as uni work (mainly software dev + some 3d work/photoshop).

Hopefully something around £1500

Thanks. :)

A few Qs.

Why are the ATI Cards better value for money at the moment? and are they likely to still be better in a few months?

How does the Asus Xonar card compare to the creative cards or even the Razer Barracuda card that OcUK sell?

You say a lot could be changed, what stuff would drop from my spec to improve other areas?

Thanks again. :)
