Spec me please!

Hey guys, I don't really know a lot about building a spec up for a pc:

So I'd like some kind soul to help me :')

Basically, I want a large case (obsidian?) and a good cpu/psu/mobo.

Then, just average everything else - I want to be able to play tf2, tribes, sc2, blacklight, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2 especially, etc - pretty much everything. Not too bothered about amazing graphics so far.

So basically, I want a decent starter rig, that I will gradually upgrade over a while to a super computer (many tbs of storage, fantastic gpu, etc) - But be able to play on soon. I'm guessing the mobo/psu/case/processor if good from the start will last a good while, and cope with all the gradual upgrades?

I only have so much money now, so want to build something I can start playing on, which is also the first step to implementing way better components.

Don't include monitor/peripherals/windows.

Preferably around the 500 pound mark, for the starting build :D

Sorry if I'm not making much sense - basically, in the end I want a really good gaming/recording/rendering unit, but that will take me a while to save up for, so would rather get an ok pc now that still runs stuff, so I have something to play on whilst I save xD

Thank you guys so so much

Do you need a hard drive?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 500R Midi Tower Case - Black £99.95
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £82.99
1 x Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £65.99
1 x Adata XPG Gaming v1.0 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (AX3U1600GC4G9-2G) £38.99
1 x Samsung SH-S222BB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.99
Total : £499.90 (includes shipping : £12.50).

The case is expensive. There are other cheaper alternatives. But I like mine a lot, especially if you are looking for a roomy case with good airflow.

The CM 500 imo is a bit short on power for a top tier card. But will do with a 7850. The CM 600 will take any 28nm GPU.

Yeh a Hard Drive is needed, preferably around 1TB - will add more gradually.
My friend has an obsidian and it seems really good, think I might get one of those for the case :D

And can anyone recommend an ok Graphics Card that will let me run most stuff decently with these kinds of spec setups :D ?

Basically, this system just really needs to run SC2, GW2, TF2, ARMA2, Diablo 3, etc with decent fps.

6850 will get you there. It's a good gaming card.

Right :D

So the mobo and psu etc will be able to support full on elite gpus etc in the end?

As by the end of the upgrading, it will be a very high spec pc.

Depends what you mean?

If you are talking about sli or crossfire you will need a bigger power supply and if you want them to run at x8 x8 speed you will need a £100 motherboard .

For a single gpu sytem you will be fine.

Can anyone recommend a larger psu and better mobo then please?

Btw, using a big psu for a relatively weak system.. is that damaging at all? Or will it be fine, only using however many w it needs?

Two cards instead of one. Some games support them well, some don't.

Extra heat and power requirements. Unless you have super high resolution (three screens, or 2560 x 1440), no need.

For single card, anything above 600W is kinda wasted. a good 650W PSU gives you lots of headroom even on thirsty cards (GTX480), a 550W PSU is the sweet-spot for the current generation graphics (GTX680, GTX670).

for low power cards (6850 / 7850), 500W is good to go.
