I am looking at building my first PC and would need everything including OS. I am not fussed about playing games, but would like a good performance especially for multitasking including photoshop etc. Budget is £300 excluding OS.

A multi core AMD CPU is going to spank a i3 in multi threaded tasks. A i5 is possible if you do have some SATA HDD lying around.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4590 3.30GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £137.99
1 x Gigabyte B85M-DS3H Intel B85 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £53.99
1 x Avexir Core White Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U16000904G-2CIW) - White Light £49.99
1 x BitFenix Neos ATX Tower Black/Gold £29.99
1 x Antec VP450P 450W '80 Plus' Continuous Power Supply £29.99
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £10.99
Total : £322.54 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Dont need a GFX card as the CPU has a built-in IGP, the board has DVI/HDMI etc.

Thank you Stulid. Would the laptop hard disk I mentioned on the previous post plug straight into this spec? Also would i need to buy anything else like cables etc. I am planning to get a logitech keyboard with mousepad? sorry for being so naive.

Yes you can use that, maybe add a SSD for the OS and programs and use the HDD for storage.

How about a funky AMD Kaveri build?

You need faster RAM with these as the built-in GFX core relies heavily on system performance and it will play games too.

All these specs should have everything you need to get them up and running.

Would you say this Kaveri spec is better than the core i5? I am just a bit worried about the warranty. I guess you get a full 3 year warranty with i5 compared with 3months on a b grade.
