Hi,

I need a pc for a) video editing b) run diff design applications i.e. photoshop c) will be on a network d) day to day office use....

Will I need a great graphics card for video editing or will one with TV OUT suffice? I need to connect it up a camcorder and then record footage onto a hdd then edit bits of footage....

Also do you think its worth going dual core? Or will single core suffice?

Do you think I need 2gb ram or do you think 1gb will be fine?

No Overclocking or gameplaying necessary...

Please spec me up

Thanks in advance..

P.S. Budget wise - well of course I am looking for a deal :)

Video editing normally requires 1GB ram min and the fastest CPU you can afford. Unless you are using a limited number of VE apps the graphics card makes no difference to how fast a PC can render.

Most digital cameras transfer data via firewire which most MB now support. For analogue cameras you will need something whic can capture via S-video. VIVO enable g/c cards will probably work OK.

This is what I came up with......can u guys go cheaper for same or better performance ????

is that gfx card value for money?

is the RAM compatible with mobo?

The mobo has networking abilities right?

Is the CPU ok?

I need to order this tomorrow so all help would be most appreciated

Thanks

You don't need anything other than onboard graphics for video editing (besides the 7300 wouldn't be up to much in games anyway). So:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail - £119.95
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5 - £48.95
Asus A8N-VM CSM Micro ATX (Socket 939) PCI Express Motherboard - £49.95
Pioneer DVR-111DBK 16 x 16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM - £22.95
Antec SLK2650BQE Black Quiet Mini Tower Case - 350W SmartPower PSU - £40.95
Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop v2.1 - OEM - £19.95
Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 300GB ST3300831A ATA-100 8MB Cache - OEM - £46.95

Subtotal £349.65
VAT £61.19
Total £410.84

That would cost £16 more, but you'd get a bigger HDD, and a faster CPU. If you went with the 3200+ CPU it would knock the total price down to £375.

Antec SLK3800BUK Black Quiet Midi Tower Case - 400W SmartPower PSU (CA-048-AN) 50
Pioneer DVR-111DBK 16 x 16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM (CD-038-PO) 26.32
Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB ST3160812A ATA-100 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-047-SE) 52
Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop v2.1 - OEM (KB-052-MS) 23.44
Asus A8N-VM CSM Micro ATX (Socket 939) PCI Express Motherboard (MB-119-AS) 59
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5 - £58
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3200BPBOX) (CP-11 110

Total £379 inc vat

I will settle for this :)

With my choice of CPU there is an onboard HSF right??

P.S Logan
Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 300GB ST3300831A ATA-100 8MB Cache - OEM - £46.95

The 300GB Seagate is in the clearance section. Sorry, should have pointed it out. It's a bargain though.

Yep, the retail version comes with a heatsink fan. It's the cheaper OEM version that comes without a fan.
