Spec Me Portable Hard Drives (for MBP)

I'm asking in mac forum as I want to make sure they work with my MBP(Intel SantaRosa 2.2ghz), and that it has enough power to USB /FW ports.

Ive looked at the
Freecom Mobile drives with the aluminium exterior (leaning towards this one)
Freecom Mobile Pro drives with firewire (not sure if requires external power in addition to firewire)

Anyone have any reccomendations/experiences with portable 2.5" external hard drives? Is it worth building my own ?

Go for the firewire one, it'll be loads faster.

Yeah I thought so, its firewire 400. But its only a 4200rpm drive whereas the USB one is 5400rpm. Hmm decisions, decisions.

I had a Western Digital MyBook Pro, FireWire 800 drive.

It was very very handy for backups. I'd recommend it as it was VERY sturdy.
