I'm about to move into my new house for when uni starts and was wondering which powerline Ethernet adapters i should buy i'm thinking 200mb/s but which one to go for ( the cheaper the better :p)

I have virgin media 20mb broadband and want to get the most out of it :D

I was thinking having one of powerline Ethernet adapters going from the wifi router (which is downstairs) going to my bed room then going to a switch so i can have my all my devices on the internet. I have one gaming pc and HTPC and an xbox 360. Would this work or would the switch bottle neck the network in some way

My HTPC streams HD content from my gaming pc atm with just a Cat5e Network Crossover cable. Setting up the network again should be just replacing the crossover cable with a normal Ethernet cable right? Would i need a really good switch or all they all the same these days?

Thanking you all in advanced. :)

I would appreciate some advice since i will be buying these items within the week :)

For home use, any old switch would most likely do the job. It may pay to stay away from cheap ones, also make sure it's a switch and not a hub.

As for the powerline adapters, find some online, and read the reviews, they're all pretty much similar, and afaik there are only two major "chipset" variants, anyway.

I'd reccomend going with Homeplug standard 200 mbps units rather than the alternatives. These are now pretty generic products mostly differing in the packaging of the plug and wether they have pass through power sockets. OCuk dont sell many different models unfortunately.

Switch will work fine though all traffic goes through one adapter which is the obvious bottleneck. Affect depends on how many devices will be in use.

I'm thinking getting a Netgear FS605 5-Port Fast Ethernet Switch (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...ame=Netgear FS605 5-Port Fast Ethernet Switch)
Which is only £14 :)

The powerline adapters seems to cost a hell of a lot lol. Does anyone no the speed of the bt vision ones i might be able to pick up a pair cheap. Or i will need to buy a set of these Billion BIPAC P102 Powerline Starter Kit (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...name=Billion BIPAC P102 Powerline Starter Kit)

Which seems a lot of money too me at £83.41 (i'm a student make things cheaper :p ) I'm going to have a good look around on the net there has got to be some cheap bands :D

pair of 85 mbps home plugs will cme in at £40 ish.

the BT comtrend units are a nominal 200mbps are not homeplug standard but use a competing technology
