Spec me - PS4 for kids?

Fortnite!! Bad game in my opinion but exactly what you are looking for.
Solo duo and squads. No blood or gore
When you die you basically just disappear . The game is made for kids and very kid friendly

Also sports games like fifa can be good. If you are worried about fights they can be on the same team
 
Goat simulator is worth a look. it's usually quite cheap. It's quite a laugh 2 player split screen. Rocket league is also good but that is VS all the way
 
From my experience (my son had his PS4 when he was 7) he's really only been playing Minecraft online & local co-op with his friend but has also enjoyed Lego Worlds, Rayman Legends (though that might be a bit too hard), Ratchet & Clank, Dragon Quest Builders and Knack. He tried Fortnite and liked the building aspect but didn't like being shot constantly! lol
