Spec me PSU & Graphics

Hi,

Looking to upgrade my Rig and before anyone asks, no I am not interested in waiting until a new series of cards come out etc.

Basically I have £200 or just over to play with and want a new graphics card and a decent PSU that is going to last with future systems too. Given the fact I have had my Hiper for 3 years and its been faultless (Yes its a good one), I just need more power now.

Rest of the System is an E6400 @ 3.2GHz, 4GB PC6400 Ram, 500GB WD HDD.

At the moment I am looking at:

OcUK ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT 512MB GDDR4 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU

Can I get a better performing the card within my budget?

The next step up from the 3870XT would be the 8800GT and you are unlikely to be able to find that and a decent PSU such as that one for £200, so if you wanted it then you'd need to increase your budget a bit.

To be honest, I dont think you need such a big PSU. May be get a Corsair 520W and go for the 8800GT.

Is the 8800GT really a lot faster?

I thought the 3870 was a better card out of the two

I think the 8800GT is the better of the two but have a look at the VGA charts on Tom's Hardware for a rough idea, of course you've then got to decide if the difference is worth the £40 odd.

I would say go for the 8800 gt

So it is, for some reason I looked at that card and thought it was the 256mb version.
