Hi all,

I want to build another little server PC that is capable of running a few applications, web browsing etc.

I have fallen for the Raijintek Metis case and want this to be my basis for a new little, cheap build.

Can it be done for around£200? I have monitor, peripherals etc. Just the barebones required like RAM, CPU, mobo, SSD, PSU etc.

Many thanks,
Alex.

Yeah, mini itx boards exist for sandy bridge. However ocuk don't sell any so I am not 100% about posting links to competitors.

Having a look, there are a couple of H61 Mini itx boards floating around for less than £50. Have a look at the ASRock H61MV-ITX, ASUS P8H61-I, Gigabyte GA-H61N-D2V and even a sapphire board (who knew sapphire did motherboards?).

You will lose sata 3 but tbh I have used my system on sata 2 for a laugh and noticed no change in the responsiveness. You rarely ever read or write more than 300MBPS in day to day use of an OS.

Thank you. I may as well salavage what I can from my existing secondary PC. So all I need is:

Motherboard (mini) suitable for Sandybridge
SSD for Windows and the 'few' apps I have
The case itself
Cooler? I have a H60 but not sure if it will fit in the Rajintek Metis
Modular PSU?

Power supply is good and I would assume you can fit an h60 in that case. If not then leave it unmounted until you get a replacement.

For ssd I would recommend a 250GB as they can be found stupid cheap. Crucial makes good drives that can often be gotten for stupidly low prices.

I already have an OCZ 550W psu non modular but I'll see if that fits first. Just saves me more money!

Thanks for all your help I appreciate it :).

Anymore advice? I've been thinking of ditching the H60 and getting a cheap air cooler or even using the stock one.

I would stick to the H60 if the pump is quiet and then use a low noise fan. Should make the whole system really quiet.

If not then get an air cooler and, again, use a low noise fan.

Just a question on the basket items: -
Is there an easy way to display "your basket" in the forum? I`ve got a query on mine that I would like to ask help for, thanks.

So, I'm torn between the following motherboards:

ASRock H61MV-ITX
Gigabyte GA-H61N-D2V H61

Both around £40. What would you go for?

I have an old Geforce 430 card that will do for now. Definitely better than anything onboard. I appreciate all your help. This should be a nice little project :).
