Was round my parents' the other week, and my mum has finally caught up with the 21st century and got an iPad, which is great but their home network is a bit poor and that's hampering the usability of it a little.
Their house is quite big, been extended a few times and has two ring mains (no idea if there's a spur between them or not), and my dad has the oldest wifi router/modem I've seen in a decade - it must be almost 15 years old. These issues combined mean that the wifi just doesn't work well across much of their house, and powerline adapters probably won't work well due to the two ring mains factor.
They do have a cat5 cable running from the router to one of the upstairs bedrooms, but the (also ancient) wifi access point there no longer works.
I said I would help my dad sort this out, and he asked if I would buy the kit and set it up when I go round for his birthday in a couple of weeks.
I was thinking of a decent wifi router/modem and something that would allow them to access wirelessly from the upstairs bedroom.
Can anyone help out with any suggestions?
