Spec me slideshow/video software

I'm looking for some recommendations for software to create a video slideshow of old photographs with the ability to add captions and numerous music tracks. I want to be able to add clips of songs to a timeline instead of just adding one track for the whole thing. I don't know how else to describe it other than a funky slideshow video. Any ideas?
 
Bit of a thread revival here, anyone here used Magix products such as PhotoStory on DVD for creating slideshows? I'd like to get my hands on something that can do fancy slideshow generation without too much effort.

Any other recommendations aside from the options listed above?
 
Sony Vegas is actually quite simple to use, may need to watch the odd tutorial on where things are, its literally import the video and some effects then redner and your done!
 
I have used a trial of it before but I thought a slideshow generator which automates effects may be quicker than attempting the same thing in a standard video editor.

Can you do special effects like bubble zooms over certain areas of the photos?
 
Yes, this all can be done within the application may not be as 'simple' as you'd like but can be done :)

Anything like that a tutuorial can be found online.
