Spec me: smart casual

I'm thinking it, so I'm gonna say it...
With most people, respect is earnt. The people you most respect, are those who don't make you earn it. It's nothing to do with how you look.

No **** sherlock.

But if you work in an office where everyone dresses in suit and tie, you could be the most respected and best employee in the place but if you turn up on Monday wearing jeans and polo, then you dun goofed. Dress is very obviously only a small part of the equation in getting your work life right, but its still worth getting right.

First impressions count though, and as I'm completely inexperienced in this, I need to make a good first impression.

Budget is quite roomy if I have to resort to a credit card but I'd prefer not to.

Except that more attractive people have on average more positive outcomes to first meetings.

You can talk about respect all you want but your personality is stupider than your mind is and doesn't think so abstract.

It sees someone and nearly instantly makes up its mind, it's much harder to cha ge somones opinion of you later than ealier

to some extent, but people are affected by subconscious biases too - there have been plenty of studies showing that taller men are more likely to be successful in the work place

your looks, your personality, how you carry yourself etc.. all of this can have an impact

- Jorts
- Insane Clown Posse t-shirt
- Combat boots
- Gatorade and Cheetos

Bear in mind you're dealing with a forum with a heavy bias towards IT so their idea of smart casual should be studiously ignored.

I always get told off for wearing patrol boots :(

but then everyone complains they cant walk far because of thier shoes so we need to take a cab or something :/

I've seen a tall, charismatic, good looking but not particularity amazing worker get a double promotion - yep, jumped two levels in one fell swoop!
