ok, so i've been going through a spate of atmospheric shooters recently, started with a moment of boredom deciding to give metro a proper go (i'm not good with jump scares/paranormal ****) and really enjoyed those, then move on to the bioshock franchise and really loved the whole morality gone wrong storylines.

however having just done all 3 bioshocks+dlc i'm finding myself hungry for a new world. something similar in terms of good old fashioned killing everything you see (or at least have that an option for when i inevitably fail at stealth) and an interesting storyline. can be gritty and realistic or wacky and dystopian as long as it's interesting.

so any suggestions?

edit: doesn't have to be shooters, just as long as there are sufficient levels of badassery to the main character.

Try Fallout 4.

You will still die if you go to the wrong places, but the initial difficulty is easier than Fallout 3.

I quite enjoyed Fallout 3 where killing one zombie needed 20 headshots from my Pea shooter rifle that takes 30 seconds to reload :D

Fallout 4 gives you better stuff early on (or I was just crap at Fallout 3)

i'm giving 3 another go, but paid better attention to the character building at the start so i can actually shoot mostly in a straight line.

atm my biggest issue is medpacks, just keep getting horribly injured and going through them like nobodys business.

Both metros are exactly what you're after .

both metros is what started this whole chain, although definately on the upper end of my tolerance for ghostly shenanigans.

Probably just me, but I loved the world setting (which I guess can be atmosphere) of Borderlands 2

i totally agree, i have so many hours on the borderlands series, can't wait for 3

If u don't mind 3rd person. Spec ops the line

man that game is weird, played through it on playstation and it was strange

Once you hit a certain level in Fallout 3 you will be basically invincible, but the initial going is tough. Just do a few of the quests around the Megaton area until you've leveled a bit and you should be fine.

yeah, i went back there after doing the museum mission (and getting nearly owned by the sheer volume of supermutants out front) and defused the bomb then did a few missions for the shopkeeper which seems to have me in a bit better stead. figuring out the whole weapon repair thing helped too.

When i first started playing i rushed to get to DC aswell. It really is infested with the things and they're tough as hell when you're low level.

Are you running any mods? They really improve the game with little things such as sprinting and iron sights.
There is a great guide on the STEP forums that really makes the game the way it should have been. It can be hard to setup mods correctly for Fallout 3 (and New Vegas) but is well worth the effort.

not running any mods, although both sprinting and iron sights do sound nice.

generally i avoid running mods on a first playthrough- to get the true experience of what the creators wanted.

is there anything that lets you assign a seperate button to melee? ie so you can do a melee hit with say mmb without switching weapons

Usually i would agree about a vanilla run through first, but Fallout 3 feels so dated that mods are essential in my opinion. I couldn't play vanilla when i finally got round to starting the game so found the mod guide i mentioned before and worked through it slowly.

Just read everything carefully if you decide to use it and don't be daunted by the seeming complexity of the guide. Once you get comfortable with the tools it is fairly easy.

Not sure about separate melee hits since it's been a while since i played but it may be possible with one of the mods in the pack.

it's definately on my limit for "dated but playable", it's not like trying to play morrowind with it's render distance of 20 feet :D it's definately aged well given it still looks decent enough today.

i'll definately check that list out, fortunately looks like it's the standard utilities that skyrim/oblivion uses so should be ok there.

i'll maybe look at ads, sprinting and just texture mods, don't want to go adding mega loot first playthrough.
