Spec me some backup software

I made a backup using Nero BackItUp. My HD failed, luckily I had my backup - restored fine, all but one large setup file (several ISO images in an archive).

In the end I worked out Nero BackItUp uses the ZIP file format, so extracted the file into the different segments and joined all together...phew!

At the end of the day, I want a backup program I know I can trust and I can just restore as simple as I backed up.

Nero BIU was nice enough to use. Nice file browser, allowed me to select groups and/or individual files from both my harddrives (crucial to me) and just click backup, and away it went to my external harddrive connected to my USB port.

Anyway, I want something which will backup my data. Compression isn't important (files are heading to a 160gb drive), but a password would be nice. A file browser to browse both my harddrives will score many, many brownie points with me. As will the ability to save backup jobs, and simple restoration of files.

Looking forward to your suggestions!

Symantec Ghost will do what you want.

You can use Ghost Explorer as well to add / remove / extract files from the image.

It's pretty easy to use and will backup the entirity of your hard drive to one image or you can put it straight onto CD's / DVD's and make boot disks to recover your entire system in case of a HD failure.

EzBackitup is a good little app for directly copying your files onto another location. No compression etc, just a straight copy, which IMO is better as that way you don't need to uncompress a huge backup image if you need to restore one file, and you also don't lose access to everything if it becomes corrupt.
