Spec me some Bike parts please!

Hi people!
Basically, I haven't ridden the bike any kind of distance since summer due to it being at home and me being at uni! So i'm bringing it back with me after the Easter break on the train, as its the only bit of exercise i get, and i REALY need to loose some weight

I just want to get it fit for using again as im cycling around Oxford, the last thing i want is for the chain to go or the gears to mess up .

So i'm after a new chain as its been sat in a damp 1950's shed for 8 months, and a good set of lights, looking at a budget of up to £40 but would like it too be as low as possible
i've been looking at these lights, are they any good?

this is my gear set up;

Rear Mech SRAM X0
Front Mech SRAM X9
Cassette SRAM PG950 11-32T
Chain KMC HG-73
Chainset Truvativ Stylo GXP 44/32/22T
Bottom Bracket Truvativ GXP

I dont know as much about bikes as a lot of people on here so thought id ask for advice!
also, have any of you took your bikes on the train? is it much hassle?

depending on use before it was sat for 8 months you might not need to change the chain, they should be good for a number of years as long as its not rusty and stuff (linkage movement) look for sideways twist but more than likely it will be good for a few years still.

I got it at the beginning of December 2010 when the snow was with us, and used it with salt and wet mud, and havent really kept it clean im ashamed to say, the links also have a bit of play in them as far as i can remember (havent touched it since christmas)
