Spec me some carpets

I need to put down some new carpets and underlay on the staircase, landing and living room. Had a walk around carpet store today and no idea what I was looking at for spec wise or price wise, just a lot of aimless touching :).

My personal taste isn't a factor because I'm selling the house so budget wise nothing cheapo but not looking to spend 30sqm either.

Any carpet types, specs I should be looking at? Same carpet throughout or should I get a softer feel underfoot for living room and more durable for the stairs?
Any recommendations on good places to purchase ?

Stupid question but how much is the house worth? That would be a serious factor for me in choosing a carpet/underlay for sale if it is a £150K student hole I'd spend next to nothing on the carpets if it is an £800K designer pad then obviously I'd spend significantly more but still not too much, underlay will be important as that can give the luxury soft feeling to even a cheap carpet!
House is a tweener 550-600 family home. Current renovations have been mid spec and the lvt felt too expensive at 30-40sqm so I don't want to spend that again if I can help it.

Just a question of how low to go to keep it mid spec. I don't know enough about carpets to know what the sweet spot is where quality stops and "stain resistant luxury triple twill" marketing words start. Looking at maybe 60m2 plus underlay and grippers.
