OK, for those that have followed my coast to coast thread I've been recommend by a family member who used to be a keen cyclist to get some shoes, he can lend me his pedals.

Since I've had to buy almost everything from scratch I'm trying to keep the costs down a bit so was hoping the £30-£40 mark would still get me something reasonable... or is this too optimistic?

So quite simply, are these any good for £35?

Or can you recommend any better?

Thanks :)

I looked at the dhb ones and I'm not adverse to getting them as I quite like their jerseys but I prefer the look of the shimano tbh. They also had them in my local halfords (for almost twice the price) and they fit ok, so at least I know I'm good on that side of things.

That's fair enough, aesthetics are subjective.:D

Either will be of decent quality and do the job. I've got Shimano shoes myself for commuting. They've taken a beating and been used in all weather but are still going strong.

I've bought cycling shoes before online and regretted not trying them out, I know you've probably thought of this already, but if you can definitely try before buy. My shimano's were too narrow for my feet.

Are your peddles definitely SPD-SLs?

Also keep in mind that you'll need to buy cleats to go with the shoes.

Yes, checked that with my Brother in law already and I've got cleats on my list too.

Those dhb shoes are actually really well reviewed... hmm.

Actually, I may have the wrong end of the stick here. He has pointed me to "Look Keo" cleats, which on research suggest a different type of pedal. Have I got the wrong shoes here then? Or do I just need the right cleat?
