Spec me some DDR3 RAM (790i ultra)

hi,

so my mother board died on me, it was 780i so i got a great deal (sadly different site) on a 790i ultra and now need some memory. i didnt go i5 or i7 becuase that will be for my new build at the start of 2010 with gt300s XD

ok here is what i am after, some nice fast, dual channel kit, 4GB but only 2x2GB (no 4x1 etc) and anything under £100.

Intel core 2 quad Q8200
Geforce gtx 260 (x2 sli)
corsair TX850

i was thinking the corsair dominators ddr3 1600mhz but then i seen those real low timing/low voltage G.Skill ram real keep and look good performance? are the any good ?

let me know as i want to place my order today and get my system back up and running XD

Well the g-skill 1600mhz and cl7... works at 1600mhz and cl7...

That's my set a few seconds ago, set the XMP profile in the bios and you're off.

It's cheaper than paying more for slower dominator memory.

These have a lifetime warranty and little toothy heat spreaders.

So what are you waiting for?
 
wicked, i wont be able to use the XMP on an nvidia chipset but a little manual tweaking nevr hurt anyone :D

I'm building a P55 i7 for my friend and got the opportunity to try this GSkill memory in my Striker II Ex.

At the rated CAS settings (plus tRAS upto 29) and 1.65v I took my Striker straight to 1700mhz. I ran Prime95 for 5 mins and completed FutureMark Vantage without error.

1750mhz caused a blue screen.

My OCZ Platinum and 1.9v will only do 1600 at C7, even slowing the ratings it won't exceed that.

I am definitely going to buy some 2000mhz DDR3!
 
My Ripjaw F3-16000CL9D-4 was delivered today!

Yesterday I did a bit of investigation as to why my PC has the odd crash and freeze. I experimented with different voltages and speeds for the OCZ platinum as well as different FSBs on the Q9450.

What I found is the following:

At 1333 FSB
1 - DDR1333 C9 1.65v - Not Prime stable
2 - DDR1333 C7 1.9v - Prime stable
3 - DDR1600 C7 1.9v - Not Prime stable

At 1600 FSB
1 - DDR1333 C7 1.9v - Prime stable
2 - DDR1600 C7 1.9v - Not Prime stable

At 1633 FSB
1 - DDR1333 C7 1.9v - Prime stable
2 - DDR1600 C7 1.9v - Not Prime stable

By setting all my fans to max RPM at 1800 FSB and dropping the multiplier to 7
1 - DDR1333 C7 1.9v - Prime stable
2 - DDR1600 C7 1.9v - Not Prime stable

Bit of a pattern emerging here!

When I bought my rig last year, this was the cheapest 1600 DDR3 I could find - especially considering its C7 rating.
However, on my Striker II at least, it just isn't stable at anything other than 1333 at C7 with the full 1.9 volts!

Tonight the Ripjaw will go in and the OCZ goes on my favourite auction site. Despite it's 2000mhz rating, I'm hoping for 1800 Linked 'n' sync'd at C8 :D
 
Well it may not be linked and syncd... I get stability problems anywhere over 1650 fsb (with the standard x8 multiplier) but I did easily achieve 1800 DDR3 at C8.

2000mhz? Well yes, I got to the O/S but the moment I started Prime, the PC crashed.

I got upto 1930 ish at C9 but that gave me funny dividers, so I settled for 1800 C8 with an FSB of 1650.

All of this with 1.65V - the temps seem lower than before but I need to some more testing.
 
I just put another 4gb in and I had to increase the latency from C7 to C8 at 1650mhz.

Whilst I'm sure that the memory would go faster on an LGA1156, it allows me to get the most out of my Q9450.
